Auckland Airport Guide to Auckland Airport - AKL

Auckland Airport Train to city center

Though nowadays there is no way to get directly from Auckland Airport to the city center by train, a project to connect both destinations is on the table, since 2010 former mayor of Auckland Len Brown promised a rail link to the airport during his last election campaign as a measure to double public transport figures by the next 15 years.

The project

On 2010, the planning study for the project began and an official name was given: South Western Airport Multi Modal Corridor Project.

On mid-late 2016, there was a dichotomy between Auckland’s Airport Company and the government regarding if there will be necessary to develop a bus station compared to a light rail station since there was also a discussion between which option is the suitable for the project, if a light rail or a heavy rail, and a new domestic terminal is projected to be constructed in 2021.
